Welcome to Rhode Island EPSCoR

Established in February 2004, RI EPSCoR works to build partnerships between state government, institutions of higher education and industry to effect lasting improvements in research infrastructure and national R&D competitiveness.

RI EPSCoR is pursuing a three-tiered strategy to meet these goals:

  • Strengthening Rhode Island's basic science and engineering research capacity to advance statewide innovation.
  • Increasing efforts to convert ideas into jobs through technology commercialization.
  • Enhancing training and education for students in science and engineering to address Rhode Island's workforce needs.

Current Initiatives

RI EPSCoR is working to develop a comprehensive research infrastructure development strategy for the state. This process includes implementing the Life Sciences based programs initiated with the award of the state's first Research Infrastructure Improvement (RII) grant, securing private and government funds for targeted research areas, and identifying other non-Life Science disciplines that are critical in the development of the state's research infrastructure.
